AS THEY have done successfully last year, the Special Events Committee and Coaching Department of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) last Sunday hosted a successful wicket-keeping clinic for junior wicketkeepers in the Ancient County at the Area ‘H’ ground. The one-day clinic was conducted under coaches Julian Moore, Winston Smith and Michael Hyles Franco who assisted the 17 young wicketkeepers from clubs across the County, with the different aspect of wicket-keeping including: E – Equipment, C – Crouch (well balanced), P – Position, G – Glovework, F – Footwork and C – Concentration and Fitness.
The coaches emphasised to the youths the importance of physical fitness and discipline for wicketkeepers as they are always involved in the game while on the field and the coaches also used the opportunity to identify potential candidates for the County’s Under-15, U-17 and U-19 levels, with those selected being included in the upcoming Junior Elite Training Programme to be launched soon.
Chairman of the Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, disclosed that the BCB will host a one-day cricket academy at the Bush Lot ground in West Berbice next Saturday, while a fast-bowling clinic will be held the following day at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
