THE Plaisance Community Centre will be buzzing with activity from 10:00hrs tomorrow, when the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) hosts the East Coast Demerara Open table tennis tournament at the venue.
Invitations have been extended to all players who reside on the East Coast of Demerara to compete in the one-day event which will be played in three categories: – 18 years and under, Senior open and Masters and will have prizes in form of trophies to be distributed to the first three finishers of each category.
Added to that, the GTTA will be launching a steering committee on the same day to oversee the development of the sport in the area and will be donating a table to that effect, according to the GTTA’s tournament coordinator Linden Johnson.
The rules, regulations and format for tomorrow’s tournament are as follows: Player who wins the first 3 games will be declared the winner, the tournament will be played utilising current ITTF rules (11-point game; best of five games; two points alternate serve).
Players are required to be at the playing venue at least 30 minutes in advance of their respective matches, the organisers will arrange knock-up time for players leading up to the tournament.
An entrance fee will be required of each player entering the tournament. Players will be grouped in fours, with the top two players advancing to the second round of the tournament where there will be a cross mix of players.
