‘Teach Them Young 2’ on at National Park today

NATIONAL cycling coach Hassan Mohamed’s second annual ‘Teach Them Young’ cycling programme pedals off around the inner circuit of the National Park from 09:00hrs today, where Olympic hopeful and local sprint ace Alonso Greaves will be looking to repeat his last year’s performance in the event. Today’s event is being sponsored by the National Sports Commission (NSC), as part of Guyana’s Mashramani celebrations and will have 11 races set for the day, at the end of which Director of Sport within the NSC, Neil Kumar, will assist with the distribution of prizes to the respective winners.
Greaves took last year’s feature event which was ridden for over 35 laps, in a time of 1:17:58.42secs, Leon Haymar the Juveniles 10-lap event, recording 23m:24secs and Turhan Harris the Veterans’ Under-50 five laps in a time of 12m:32secs.
Greaves has so far had an impressive start to his cycling campaign for this year, winning the Ricks and Sari feature event held at the same venue and placing second to Warren ‘40’ McKay in the first road race for the year.
Apart from McKay, other competitors expecting to challenge Greaves for the title today are: Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Leer Nunes, Robin Persaud, Christopher Persaud Jr, Geron Williams, Junior Niles, Eric Sankar and the youthful duo in the vast-improving Raynauth Jeffrey and Raul Leal.
