Local craft specialist to be part of Fort Lauderdale Cultural Exhibition

 By Shirley Thomas

Director of local craft brand Intricate Creations, Melba La Gadoue has been selected among a group of 12 women from the Women’s Association For Sustainable Development – Sonia Noel Foundation For Creative Arts to be part of the Fort Lauderdale Miami International Cultural Exhibition set for September 8.
Being in an environment where it is very easy to get plants and animal remains and other semi pervious materials that can be found within the environment to come up with ‘one of a kind’ masterpieces as home decor exhibits, La Gadoue who hails from New Amsterdam, East Berbice, is once again in the spotlight.

La Gadoue is an artist; a high school Science teacher; a creative designer; an Agro Processor; owner and director of a gym, and the list goes on.
She broke the ice with her ‘Eco Intricate Creations’ in 2017, making appearances and copping several top prizes at grand exhibitions held in her homeland Guyana, and hosted by popular Designer, Philanthropist and Motivational Speaker, Sonia Noel.
More recently La Gadoue also made a big hit when she took part in exhibitions at CARIFESTA 2018, held in Barbados, showcasing her wide range of intricately designed floral arrangements which she made, recycling waste materials.
Attending and participating in many exhibitions over the last several years, with each new experience she became more motivated and inspired, and so took another talent to another level – that being her popular Eco Intricate Creations Line. In this configuration, she uses coconut palms and other plant remains to make uncommon and unique pieces for homes, offices and other spaces, carrying her signature on all her creations.
Moreover, being a pro at many local exhibitions, she was motivated to create her new line of fast selling ‘Genuine Lime Products’ as well as fruit syrup concentrate, now available at the Guyana Shop.
This petite country girl – humble, but with a great degree of self-confidence, has been fascinating and wowing viewers with her products appearing in many showcases, while capturing the eyes and hearts of art lovers at varying levels, including international fora.
Meanwhile, her craft line recently extended to include attractively designed pieces made from genuine leathers, decorated with ribbons, butterflies and bows.
Such pieces have already been displayed in Michelle Cole’s international and local model displays at the Guyana Fashion Showcase last May, which made a big hit on such occasions. On releasing her most recent products, La Gadoue, when asked what keeps her going, proudly, but modestly declared: “My 4 ‘Ps’: Passion, Purpose, Plan and Products.”
