–cart off over $1M in cash, jewellery
PROPRIETRIX of the Little Rock Hotel & Television Station at Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam, Ms Pearl Dindyal, was Friday night robbed, along with other staffers, of cash, jewellery and a quantity of items exceeding $1M in value. Bandits, one of whom had earlier purchased an aerated drink from the Lot 68 Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam business entity, staged the attack just before midnight on Friday when an unmasked, identifiable male entered the bar, located on the lower flat of the premises, and ordered a soft drink.
After being served, he walked towards the northern gate, and suddenly stopped when two other masked men, armed with hand guns, ran into the yard.
One ran into the bar where the proprietrix was, and demanded cash and jewellery. The terrified woman handed over $200,000 and her gold jewels. The other armed bandit, meanwhile, threatened to shoot security guards Peter Sulker, aged 60 years, and Rudolph Outar, aged 70 years. The bandits gun-butted the guards in the process of taking them into the bar, where they were made to lie on the floor as the gun remained pointed to their heads.
After relieving their victims of cash and jewellery, the bandits ran out of the building, where they confronted Supervisor Vinesh Dindial of Cumberland, East Canje, and Driver Khemraj Lalbeharry, who were responding upon hearing of the robbery attack.
Dindial sustained injuries to his hand and shoulder, and was relieved of a cellular phone, a gold ring valued $70,000, a wristwatch valued at $12,000 and cash totalling $187,000. He received treatment for his injuries at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Lalbeharry, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, was relieved of a gold ring, a Blackberry phone, and a gold chain.
No rounds were discharged by the bandits as they fled towards the Mount Sinai Squatting area, popularly known as Angoy’s Avenue.
Police are investigating the incident.
