– Rohee
MINISTER of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee explained, yesterday, that several city streets have been made one way, in an attempt to reduce the congestion of traffic. He told a press conference that the Ministry of Home Affairs has, finally, received the order in the Official Gazette, for the changes which took effect last January 31.
Rohee said some of the affected thoroughfares are in Alberttown and the others are Georgetown wards too, including Sendall Place, Robb, Albert, Light, Peter Rose and Alexander Streets.
He noted that members of the National Commission on Law and Order had been discussing, for some time, this matter of the need to have more one way streets in the capital, given the traffic congestion experienced on a daily basis.
Rohee said: “It is our sincere hope that steps to establish these one-way streets will help to alleviate some of the congestion that takes place in sections of the city.”
He assured that his ministry will be monitoring the situation through the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Traffic Department to get the responses of the travelling public on how they use and experience the establishment of the one way streets.
