BUSINESSMAN Shabeer Baksh was reelected to serve as president for another year and he will be assisted by Nishal Samaroo as first vice-president and Karamdatt Bissoondyal as the second vice-president, following the election of office-bearers for 2012 by the Blairmont Cricket Club (BCC). The secretary is Waqar Hassan, while Shazad Ali will occupy the treasurer’s position with Parmanand Ramdhan serving as the assistant secretary /treasurer. The committee members are Roopchand Ganesh, Andrew Tageram and Nanrandranauth Boodram.
The club, which was once very active, was resuscitated on May 26 2010 and has since been moving from strength to strength, with its administration being very active with many on- and off-the-field programmes.
There were several cricket and domino competitions, coaching sessions, and food sales, while an award ceremony and outreach charity programmes were also held in 2011.
The club participated in all the competitions for the said year in review, from the Under-13 level where they reached the semifinal, Under-17 where they lost in the quarterfinals and three completed senior competitions where they were twice defeated by Berbice champions Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.
The club, which participated in all Cricket competitions run under the auspices of the Berbice Cricket Board, had representatives in the Berbice teams in all the age groups including two at the Under-15, one at Under-17 and two at Under-19 levels.
Added to that three of the club members, namely Brendon Bess, Romesh Boodram and Karamdat Bissoondyal represented Berbice at the Senior Inter-county level, while another member made the Guyana Youth Conquerors team.
Bess has also been a member of the Sagicor High Performance Centre for the past two years, after representing Guyana at the senior level in 2008 and later became the club’s second Test player after the late Roy Fredericks, when he played against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in 2010.
Committees expected to be formed this year are: Discipline, Selection, Finance and a Special Event Committee while the first activity for the year will be a fund-raising 40 overs match on Sunday, January 29, at the Blairmont Community Centre between two teams to be announced shortly.
The club wishes to express special thanks to Banks DIH, Universal DVD and Solutions, Berbice Cricket Board, Sterling Products, Baksh Travel Service, Basil and Son’s CD and DVD Store and Chowramottoo Construction and the various media houses for the support and cooperation given during the year. The executives will be striving for added success in 2012.
