A PRISONER with four months of a previous prison sentence to serve got an additional nine months jail term yesterday for escaping from the Camp Street, Georgetown penitentiary. Anil Mc Turk appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to having escaped, on January 16, after being in lawful custody at the Camp Street location on conviction for simple larceny.
The convict told the Court that he was frustrated and did what he had to do.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the inmate was sent to the Prison Sports Club, also in Camp Street, to work under supervision.
But he went missing and during a search, he was found in a D’Urban Street yard, not far away.
