PRINCIPAL Magistrate Faith McGusty, on Wednesday, released a 28-year-old vendor on $40,000 bail on a drug trafficking charge.
Akeem Northe of Camp and Bent streets, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied that on July 2, 2019, at Stabroek Market, he had 22 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Northe’s attorney, George Thomas, told the court that the cannabis was not found in his client’s possession but on the ground.
Thomas further told the court that his client did not give any oral or written statement to the police admitting ownership or knowledge of the cannabis.
Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell made no objection to Northe being granted his pre-trial liberty. Magistrate McGusty released Northe on $40,000 bail and adjourned the matter until July 24, 2019. He was also ordered to report to the Brickdam Police Station every Monday.
