A WOMAN appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with assaulting and wounding another and her four months old baby. Dacia Francis, 27, of Lot 35 William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which stated that, on January 8, she unlawfully assaulted Stacy Worrell to cause her actual bodily harm and unlawfully and maliciously wounded Patricia Worrell, also to cause her actual bodily harm.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the defendant and Stacy had a misunderstanding which led to a heated argument after Francis accused the virtual complainant of talking her name.
The prosecutor said, as a result, Francis hit the mother who was holding her four-month old infant, causing the child to fall and suffer injuries. He added that, after the baby fell, the defendant cuffed the mother about her body.
Defence Counsel Patrice Henry disclosed that the women live in the same house and were emerging from cojoining rooms when they accidentally collided and the baby fell out the mother’s hands.
Francis was put on $100,000 bail and the cases will be called, again, on January 24.
