POLICE, during an intelligence-led operation on Sunday, arrested a 45-year-old man with an illegal firearm that was found under the seat of his white Toyota Carina 212 motorcar that was parked at Parika Back Dam, East Bank Essequibo.

Reports indicate that, when police approached the vehicle, several persons were flocked around the car and the driver later identified himself as the owner of the aforementioned vehicle.

A search of the car resulted in the seizure of a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with two live .38 ammunition and three .38 spent shells in a brown leather holster. The Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo resident was then told of the charge and arrested, and, under caution, he admitted to purchasing the illegal firearm in Georgetown, three years ago, for $100,000.
He reportedly told investigators that it was for his personal protection. He is currently in police custody at the Parika Police Station as investigation continues.
