MINISTER within the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Alli Baksh has announced that Government is spending some $30M to boost the drainage and irrigation (D&I) network at Bonasika and Itaballi farming communities along the Essequibo River. He said $16M will be spent at Bonasika and $14M at Itaballi because those areas have great potential to develop into productive agricultural schemes that can contribute to the national grow more food drive.
According to Baksh, the projects will make available more lands that will be put under cultivation with non-traditional crops.
He said the programmes will have a major impact on agricultural development in the Essequibo River and islands.
