BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Shane Dowrich followed up a high-class spell from Christopher Jordan with a half-century to help St James Settlers win the annual Inter-Parish Twenty20 tournament with a nine-wicket victory over Christ Church Dolphins on Tuesday. Dowrich, one of several national players that used the tournament to warm-up for higher intensity tussles in the Caribbean T20 next month, hit an electrifying, unbeaten 66 as the Settlers, chasing a modest 103 for victory reached their target with 20 deliveries remaining in the Final under lights at the Three Ws Oval.
Dowrich, a graduate of the West Indies High Performance Centre, added 64 – unbroken – with his captain Shamarh Brooks, another HPC graduate, to usher St James over the line, handing them the title for the first time.
Jordan, a highly-regarded fast-medium bowler with English County Club Surrey, grabbed 5 for 17 runs from his allotted four overs after Christ Church chose to bat.
He finished the first over of the match on a hat-trick, removing Barbados and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith and national batsman Kyle Hope for one and a duck respectively, off the last two deliveries.
Roston Chase, another national batsman, brought the respectability to the Christ Church innings with a top score of an even 50, while Shai Hope, Kyle’s younger brother and a Barbados Under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman, was the only other player to reach double figures, scoring 14.
The Inter-Parish tournament is an initiative of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus and has been held annually since 2007.
