TONIGHT, the top two teams of the Guinness Greatest in Da Street Futsal Competition clash in the final to decide who takes the title of Greatest in Da Street as the tournament wraps up at the National Park Tarmac from 19:00hrs.
These two teams, East La Penitence and Plaisance, have successfully battled through the knockout stages and will now climax their participation in what is expected to be an intriguing showdown for the $500 000 top prize.
The team failing to emerge victorious in the final will have to settle for the runner-up prize of $300 000 while the third place showdown between Alexander Village and Island Allstar will see the victors cart off $150 000 and the losers collect $75 000.
The West Front Road team won Group G with nine points and then proceeded to defeat Globe Yard in the Group of 16, Hope Street Tiger Bay in the quarterfinals and Alexander Village in the semifinals of the knockout round.
Back Circle, on the other hand, finished second to West Front Road in Group G with six points but recovered to defeat defending champions Broad Street B in the quarterfinal and the very spirited Island Allstar in the semifinals to make it to the final.
In the individual category the competition’s leading goalscorers are Hubert Pedro with seven goals for West Front Road and Andy Duke of Back Circle with five goals.
The exhibition tournament will see Upper Level going head-to-head with Guinness Bar for top honours while the Media team will face Clippers Barber Shop in the third place showdown.
Fans can expect a tremendous closure to the competition since the teams have displayed great enthusiasm for victory time and time again which is the perfect recipe for entertainment.
According to the organising committee of the event, this year’s turnout from the teams and fans has grown even larger than last year’s.
