A WATER main in the vicinity of the Bank of Guyana gave way around 09:00hrs on Friday, causing some water accumulation in the area.
The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), upon learning of the situation, quickly sprang into action to repair the breach.
GWI Executive Director (Operations), Dwayne Shako, said the rupture was due to the lines being old and the constant movement of large trucks in the area.
He noted that GWI lowered the water pressure to ease the volume of water accumulation, but would have to raise it at day break in order to meet the water demands of the city.
He said the pressure cannot be completely turned off since it will affect institutions such as the hospitals and prisons, among others vital institutions.
