THE opposition must show what it has satisfactorily failed to do over the years. That is, to provide the leadership required to move Guyana further ahead for all. Their first task is to show why existing policies should be discarded or amended or replaced by better well thought out policies. Now they are part of government, they must recognise the financial constraints and the need for a national prioritising of steps to maintain and increase what little progress we may have achieved. A basic financial fact is that when you raise salaries or lower taxes there is less money to spend or more money must be taken away from other people or things.
The government must continue to offer what they believe are the best policies and allow the opposition the opportunity in parliament to reject, propose something better, or work out a compromise with government. How well the AFC play their role in supporting what is best for Guyana will determine whether our leaders serve all Guyana or themselves. After all, the elections is not about who is on top or have a high paying job, but how many ordinary Guyanese get jobs and a livable wage.
Opposition must provide leadership to move Guyana forward
