Van Tull snares 10-wicket haul, Hyman hits ton as UG take first innings points

LEFT-arm orthodox spinner Damion Van Tull grabbed another 10-wicket haul as the University of Guyana (UG) snared first innings points from hosts Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO), in the Georgetown Cricket Association-organised, Noble House Seafood-sponsored second division tournament. The hosts won the toss and decided to take first strike but, thanks to Van Tull’s 5 for 45, were bowled out for 217 from 60.1 overs. Kumar Singh scored 66, Shivanand Roopnarine 46, Shiveshwar Sankar 22 and Derrick Khoulen 19. 
Medium pacer Darnell Douglas was economical on the small ground, ending with 2 for 22 while Dennis Heywood captured 2 for 31 with his off-spin for UG, who reached 376 for 9 declared off 73 overs in their response.
Clevon Hyman stroked a masterful unbeaten 160 which was decorated with 22 fours and two sixes while other useful contributions came from Melroy Stephenson Jr 69, Godfrey Thakurdin 59 and Heywood who showcased his all-round abilities with a classy 38.
Roopnarine grabbed 3 for 35 bowling his off-spin for GYO, who, being faced with a deficit of 159 runs, reached 197 for 9 from 54 overs when a draw was agreed by the two captains.
Abdul Rahim and Pravendalall Persaud both made 59 while Van Tull capped off a fine game by capturing 6 for 66 to end with match figures of 11 for 111. He received support from Dwayne Dodson who took 2 for 37.
