SCHOOLS and scores of people from across Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice) joined Guyana’s festival of colours, glitter and celebration after hard work on Thursday, January 31, 2019, as the Department of Education hosted its Regional Children’s Mashramani Costume Competition.

Despite the inclement weather, the amusing competition took place at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden in keeping with this year’s theme “Celebrate Mash 49 with Victory in Mind.”

The massive crowd witnessed primary and secondary school students, from across the region, competing in different categories of activities such as masquerade, hip-hop, skipping, contemporary and physical display.

In the many dances, the participants were dressed in colourful costumes and some were covered in different shades of glitter. The performed pieces also highlighted current affairs such as the discovery of Guyana’s oil, domestic violence, abuse, amongst others.
