Dear Editor,
In the wake of former government MP, Mr. Charandass Persaud’s action in the National Assembly recently, please allow me some space to discuss this issue, one of national importance.
First of all, Mr. Persaud when he voted against the government in the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition Peoples Progressive Party, did same although he was an MP of the ruling administration.
Editor, you cannot escape the reality that despite whatever dissatisfaction one might have with the APNU+AFC government, what Mr. Persaud did was cold, calculated, deliberate and nauseating.
After fleeing the very next morning to Canada, where he is a citizen, the disgraced MP is now chatting away at any opportunity he gets like a parrot.
In one of his commentaries, Mr. Persaud said something that struck me. “I took so much from the government, it drive me crazy”. Now the next logical question is, how an unstable individual can make a rational decision if he cannot think straight.
Editor, this is not a new position I am putting forward but I am repeating what this man said. I am not sure what his endgame is but every time this man speaks he puts his foot in his mouth. Additionally, the loquacious gentleman in responding to allegations that his vote was paid for, rhetorically asked ‘so what if I get pay?’ Now you don’t have to be a scholar to realise that there is more to Mr. Charrandas Persaud and this story than meets the eyes. Now if this, ‘noble’ gentleman wanted to help the sugar workers and his ‘fellow Guyanese brothers and sisters’ like he said, why he ran away the very next day.
It clearly demonstrates that Mr. Charrandas Persaud is lying about many things.
The Peoples National Congress (PNC) member Aubrey Norton is alleging that his party has evidence that Mr. Persaud met with members of the opposition and a Trinidadian businessman and was handsomely paid off for voting against the coalition government on Friday, December 21st, 2018. Editor, notwithstanding what the constitution prescribes in the event of a successful no-confidence motion, such allegations cannot be swept under the rug. This is a serious allegation that MUST be investigated, and hopefully, the evidence can be passed onto the relevant authorities for the appropriate action.
The government has signaled its intention to take the matter to court if need be and rightfully so. Such a serious matter should be executed lawfully and transparently and Mr. Persaud’s action clearly indicates that such was not the case. Editor, if this man is serious about helping his country he should return and do it from his place of birth.
The media needs to grill him properly and they will find that this disingenuous man’s story has many holes and he has an agenda. It is just a matter of time before the naked truth about him and his suspected collusion with the PPP, to surreptitiously unseat a democratically elected government is exposed I hope there are lasting consequences for such unpatriotic actions.
Editor, from the pockets of discussions raging on since that dramatic night in Parliament, I have noticed that many Guyanese are now wide awake and have indicated that they are ready to vote like never before, to keep the APNU+AFC government in office. They have also said that despite some dissatisfaction with the government, voting the PPP back into office is not an option since that party’s record in office speaks for itself, DISMAL.
