Argument, provocation ends in cousin being beheaded

AN argument with a cousin over an allegation of laziness, led to Stefon Bacchus called Stefon Durant, being beheaded at Grant 1802 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, shortly after 14:15 hrs on Wednesday. Eighteen-year-old Bacchus and his alleged killer, Royston McAllister known as Junior, both of Kortberaad Village, East Bank Berbice, along with Julius Fraser and siblings Renato and Lindon Skinner, were employed by Rabindranauth Persaud nicknamed Mary, a businessman and cane farmer at the Upper Corentyne location.
All of them were in their one bedroom camp, when the suspect is alleged to have accused his younger cousin of being lazy and not assisting with the kitchen work.
Bacchus reacted by dealing McAllister several  slaps on his face, before retiring for an after lunch siesta.
But, on awakening at 14:15hrs, Bacchus was overheard provoking McAllister, who, in turn, was not very responsive.
However, Bacchus left the house and sat on the stairway when the accused killer armed himself with a cutlass and chopped the neck of his unsuspecting cousin.
This newspaper was told that only a string of flesh kept the head of the deceased hanging on to his body.
The accused teen’s aunt, Ashanti McAllister, who resides in New Amsterdam, also in Berbice, described her nephew as a supportive child to his mother, Annette Durant, who had been acquitted of a murder charge many years ago.
Mc Allister said the teenager had sought employment to assist his mother in fulfilling the needs of his two school age sisters.
Following the killing, McAllister had fled the scene but was captured hours later by a relative and remains in custody at Springlands Police Station, while the dead man is at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
