A NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD confessed commercial sex worker was given a six months suspended prison sentence yesterday, for stealing a cell phone.
Colin Solomon (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry pleaded guilty to the offence, particulars of which said he stole the phone, valued $44,000, property of Neil Clarke on November 8. The defendant admitted he took the phone from the virtual complainant but said he cannot find it.
Police Corporal, Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said Solomon is known to Clarke and had asked to borrow the instrument but, half and hour later, reported he could not locate it.
The prosecutor said Solomon left and returned half hour later without the phone and told the virtual complainant that he could not locate it.
The magistrate imposed the suspended sentence because of the mitigating factors, including Solomon showing remorse and not wasting the court’s time.
However, Solomon was warned that he can be sent to jail if he commits another criminal offence within the six months period.
