THE president and his list of executive members of the ever-vibrant Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday offered congratulations to West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, West Indies ’A’ team skipper Veerasammy Permaul and female West Indies fast bowlers Shemaine Campbelle and Subrina Munroe on their recent achievements. According to a press release, Berbice cricket over the past four years has been on the rise as a result of the hard work, visionary leadership and forward planning and the achievements of the four players is the sweet icing on the cake of success.
Bishoo, since his debut for the West Indies, has proved that he not only belongs at the highest level, but also has the potential to become a cricketing legend in the same class like Shane Warne and Richie Benaud.
His first five-wicket haul against Bangladesh which led the West Indies to victory is another major achievement by the 26-year-old Albion player and the BCB looks forward to many more match-winning bowling performances from Bishoo.
His club mate Permaul also received congratulations from us on his well deserved selection as captain of the West Indies ‘A’ team.
Permaul is without a doubt, a player for the future and it is only a matter of time before he becomes another Berbician and the 16th overall, to play Test cricket for the West Indies, since his discipline, hard work and positive attitude served him well in his new appointment and it is our hope that he leads the Caribbean team to victory.
Congrats are also extended to Campbelle and Munroe who recently left Guyana to represent the West Indies.
Over the last four years, Berbice has produced four female West Indies players, another result of the BCB’s investment into the development of female cricket in the Ancient County.
We are confident that both Campbelle and Munroe would perform to the best of their abilities as they have done in the past and they can be assured that the BCB would continue to support them in every possible way.
The BCB would like to assure the quartet and indeed all cricketers and aspiring cricketers in Berbice that we would continue to work harder every day to lift the level of cricket even higher.
With over 70 on-the-field programmes being completed so far this year and cricket being played at all levels like never before, the BCB would be launching two tournaments for its Under-19 and 21 cricketer, while many more exciting plans and programmes will be unveiled shortly.
