Santos crush Beacon on opening night GFAPresident’s Beer Super League

SANTOS Football Club registered a big win over Beacon United FC when the Guyana Football Association (GFA) organised Banks DIH President’s Beer Super League tournament got underway on Sunday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground.
The Beacon/Santos opening match of the night had the latter romping to a 4 – 1 victory then the feature ‘clash of the juices’ match between Fruta Conquerors and Sunburst Camptown saw Conquerors needling their opponent for victory.

The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with Riddim Squad and Pele going head to head in the feature match up at 8pm while Flamingo and GFC clashes in curtain raiser at 18.00hrs.
In the opening match on Sunday, Santos was able to score two quick goals halfway through the first 45 minutes. Trevor Lewis drew first blood in the 22nd minute and his teammate Jermaine Bamfield followed up with a 27th minute goal to put Santos on top going into the second half.
Surprisingly, Beacon had better ball possession but when it came to putting goals away, they seemed lost. Beacon pulled one back in the 68th minute compliments of a Phillip Rowley goal but that did not stop the opposition.
Five minutes later, Santos made it a two possession game once again as Linden Pickett found the back of the net to put the victory beyond doubt. Michael Pedro delivered the final blow in the 89th minute as Santos completed the blow out.
Later in the evening, long time rivals Conquerors and Camptown contested a see-saw battle that saw them almost equally sharing the ball as they traded shots for the entirety of the night. However, it was young national player Pernell Schultz who scored the golden goal in the 27th minute to shift the weight of the match.
That one goal lead was enough to lead Conquerors to victory and gain three points for the win.
