GEORGE Hollingsworth, 40, was yesterday sentenced to one year imprisonment, for an attempted felony, by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
The prisoner, of Lot 33 James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to attempting, on July 10, to steal the battery from a motor lorry belonging to Edward Beharry and Company Limited.
Representative of the owner, Mr. Anandram Jagnanda said Hollingsworth was caught in a trap set by a security guard, after the company lost five batteries in nine days.
But the convict claimed he was looking for scrap iron when two men approached and severely beat him.
Asked whether he wanted to change his plea, in view of his claim, Hollingsworth maintained his guilt.
