– Albouystown and Linden
– see more action tonight
IT’s night three of the Mackeson Smooth Moves basketball tournament and tonight, the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court and the Albouystown basketball court will be the battle ground for some of Guyana’s premier basketball players, all vying for a chance to cash in on the tournament’s $1M first prize. The two venues will simultaneously host games, with 15 being played in Georgetown and 10 in Linden with three and two teams going forward respectively.
So far, Victory Valley Royals and Ghetto are the two Linden teams making it to the next round, while Bounty Colts A, Slash and Knights are the three city teams advancing.
In the Linden Zone, ‘Jets’ seems like the team to beat, featuring Shane Webster – the powerful Centre who recently represented Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) games in the Bahamas – along with National point Guard Kevin ‘2 Feet Joseph, Lawrence De Coasta and Laurell Caleb.
Former Junior National player Javon Nelson will pilot another team from the Amelia’s Ward area – Back Scheme Warriors – and he will look to the sharp shooting Delbert Caesar, Oscar Adams and nifty point guard Ruel McKinnon for much support.
Another stand out player in Orin Rose, a player known for his marksman like aim from beyond the arc will also be on show.
Rose, playing for team ‘Unknown’ will also be the centre of attention tonight in Linden but they all sat and watch the exit of Kings Way on the opening night of the tournament that showed this event doesn’t cater for players with big names, but those who have the desire to win.
Teams from Kwakwani and Ituni are all expected to make their way to MSC Hard Court in an attempt to make their claim in the lucrative tournament.
The tournament will continue on Friday at the MSC Hard Court in Linden and then moves to the Burnham Court on Sunday and Bartica and Berbice on Sunday also.
