Woman bonded on mother-in-law assault charge

SHAZEELA Ali, 33, of Lot 37 Robert Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, has been charged with assaulting her mother-in-law to cause her actual bodily harm and damaging her property. The defendant appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the charges, which stated that, on September 9, she unlawfully assaulted Rehanna Bacchus and damaged the woman’s $10,000 gate.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Ali went to the virtual complainant’s home, asking for someone else and broke the wooden gate.
The prosecutor said Ali then committed the assault on Bacchus, causing injuries to the latter.
The defendant was put on $35,000 bail and placed on a bond to keep the peace until the case concludes.
Meantime, she has to make another court appearance on November 8.
