SCORES of residents at Mashabo and Tapakuma Amerindian communities in Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) will soon get new homes to occupy for the Christmas holidays.
According to Toshao of Mashabo, Mr. Sylvin Rafael, $55M will be spent by Food for the Poor Inc., in collaboration with the Government, to construct the houses.
He said that the intended beneficiaries are very excited about the project and have already begun clearing the site of trees and bushes.
Rafael said the residents will be given the contracts to supply all the lumber to construct the wooden buildings and sanitary blocks.
Meanwhile, residents of Tapakuma have already cleared their site and will, likewise, be awarded the contract for all the materials.
Capoey, Mainstay, Onderneeming and Siriki have already benefited from similar housing projects through collaboration with Food for the Poor, the Guyana Government and Lil Red Foundation of the United States (U.S.).
