Santos win again as Milo U-23 football competition continues

SANTOS again reigned supreme over their opponents with their second consecutive victory taking them to six points in the Fruta Conquerors-organised, Milo Under-23 Football competition when action continued on Thursday night at the Tucville Playfield. Coming off a 5–0 win over Beacon United earlier in the week, Santos rallied to a 2-1 victory over Charlestown United. In the other contested match on Thursday, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Flamingo Football club played to a stalemate while the Guyana Police Force (GPF) gained a walkover from the University of Guyana.
Action continues tomorrow at the same venue with Charlestown taking on the University of Guyana from 16:00hrs. Riddim Squad will then battle Sunburst Camptown in the second match at 18:00hrs while in the feature match Fruta Conquerors will go head-to-head with Beacon United at 20:00hrs.
In the Santos/Charlestown feature showdown on Thursday night the teams’ contest was a see-saw battle, with clustered play in the midfield. Individually the players show tremendous potential but failed to function as a unit.
Santos drew first blood through a Jermain Bamfield goal in first half then doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Stephan Peters found the back of the net. Rickford Jones pulled one back for Charlestown in the 58th minute but his side could not find the equaliser before the regulation time whistle.
