AIMED at showcasing the community and the products and services available there, the first ever Parika Night and Expo will be held on Saturday. This event, which will be hosted by the Mora/Parika Neighbourhood Democratic Council on the East Bank of Essequibo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, and the business community, will offer participants the opportunity to showcase the multifaceted nature of the community.
Chairman of the NDC, Parmanand Samlall, noted that the inaugural event is expected to attract the support and participation of a wide cross section of society, and will feature attractions for the entire family, including cultural presentations, live musical entertainment, and a pageant; and best crop/produce, best cultural dishes and best display of booth will be recognised, while there would be lots of games and fun for the children as well.
In recognition of the importance of the event, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad met with Samlall on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the occasion.
The minister lauded the organisers for initiating the event which he said will help to showcase and promote its offerings, and attract additional investment to the area, already a major hub for economic activities.
He pointed to considerable development promoted by government in the area, which has attracted a number of investments by the private sector.
Prashad explained that the event is a good example of private, public partnership and such events help to showcase different parts of the country and bolster domestic tourism.
In light of this, he encouraged the organisers to ensure the continuity of the event.
