This patch of land

This patch of land
That I grew up on
Will stay with me
For my whole life long!
I may set up stake
In many other land
A new life
I may try to make
But ever so often
Comes the homing instinct
Imprinted from birth on my mind
So indelible and distinct
And I head back home
To this patch of land
That I grew up on!

Memories I can never erase
Of the nurturing effect
Of my childhood days
Time may have changed
The tone and shape of the landscape
New neighours around
Flashy buildings abound
But deeply imbedded
In my mind so sound
Is this patch of land
That I grew up on!

The fruits of my future
Surely nourished
By the roots of my past
Influences so deep
My whole life will outlast!
Amidst the turmoil of daily life
A place to withdraw – of quiet respite!

Whenever a day’s work is all done
I retrieve deep inside
To this patch of land
That I grew up on!

My mind may fade
As my year prolong
Events will dim
Faces difficult to recall
But when my time
Has finally come
I’ll still carry with me
This patch of land
That I grew up on!
