CONCACAF Female U-17 World Cup Qualifiers …

Junior Lady Jags and Curacao battle to 1-1  draw
THE junior Lady Jags and Curacao battled to a draw in the first Group C match of the CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda, yesterday.
A commendable performance by both inexperienced teams it was, as the match finished 1 – 1.
Tomorrow the tournament continues with match two between Curacao and Anguilla, who arrived yesterday, at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground from 15:30 hrs.
The Guyana/Curacao match-up had the host team winning in the ball possession area and also being very sturdy defensively while Curacao had a more organised attacking line which caused them to make more of their ball possession.
Guyana could have gone ahead during the opening minutes of the first half with a ball that beat the opposition’s goalkeeper but unfortunately it hit the upright and came back into the six-yard box.
The see-saw battle continued with most of the possession changing in midfield until Curacao’s forwards put together three wonderful passes that left the Guyanese defenders in shambles, moments before they scored in the 37th minute.
The second half resumed with Guyana still down by one but with the constant supporting of Guyana foreign-based forward, Sara Vaughn, the score line was once again level by the 52nd minute.
For the remainder of the match Guyana kept attacking with the energetic Ursuline Primus spearheading the way.
However, Curacao managed to keep them at bay while trying to stage a few attacks of their own but did not succeed either in their efforts to regain the lead.
