PRESIDENT David Granger has hailed the work of the Red Cross movement here, saying that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has been active, mercifully, in most of the world’s major human catastrophes, conflicts and crises.

In a message to mark World Red Cross-Red Crescent Day 2018, President Granger said the movement’s work worldwide and its millions of volunteers manifest the best of humanity. “It assures victims of conflict, disaster and epidemic disease that there are persons willing to risk their lives to bring relief.”

According to President Granger, the Guyana Red Cross Society has been a beacon of hope for the vulnerable over the past 70 years, noting that its programmes and projects have touched thousands of lives and relieved suffering and want through the provision of health and humanitarian services, especially in times of emergency and environmental disaster.

“The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and our own Guyana Red Cross Society could not have succeeded without the selfless service of volunteers and the generous support of individuals, organisations and corporations.

I applaud the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for its 190 years of service to the world. I express the appreciation of the Government and people of Guyana for its support for Guyana and the Guyana Red Cross Society. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement help to make the world a better place,” President Granger said.
