RESIDENTS of Lethem, Region Nine, will now benefit from a newly constructed fire station as the Ministry of Public Security continues to ensure public safety throughout Guyana. The project which commenced on April 7, 2017 is currently in its final stage of completion. The building which is approximately 60 feet by 70 feet, will house fire trucks along with an emergency ambulance.
Works are also ongoing for fire stations at Mahdia in Region Eight and Mabaruma in Region One. Eighty per cent of the work for the first phase of the Mabaruma Fire Station is currently completed, while 95 percent of the final phase for the Mahdia Fire Station has also been completed.
Each fire station will greatly benefit residents of the hinterland communities as the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) remains committed to the protection of life and property from destruction by fire, as well as attending to other disaster-related emergencies and rendering humanitarian services in collaboration with other agencies.
