A WHILE ago, Lincoln Lewis suggested that a Foreign Investment Commission be established that will monitor all investors in the country.
This may be a good idea, since the activities of investors certainly need to be monitored to ensure that we get a fair share of our resources. This may best be accomplished through oversight by an independent body rather than be left to one or more people within a particular ministry or ministries.
In addition, such a body may help push investments and their quick implementation, while ensuring that their promises are kept.
This body should also push government to look into other viable joint ventures, and not just the Marriott Hotel.
Surely, we have enough bauxite between two companies to supply one alumina plant, using possible hydro power.
A Foreign Investment Commission may be a good idea
