Ramadan begins today

THE holy month of Ramadan begins today, and Muslims in the country and worldwide are expected to begin the month of fasting. During the sacred month, Muslims perform the act of fasting by keeping away from food, drink, marital relations and all forms of wrongdoing from dawn to sunset each day.
The month ends with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr which is expected to fall on August 31.
Yesterday, the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) said it wishes to inform all Muslims that the crescent for Ramadan has been sighted.

Taraweeh prayers commenced last evening and fasting  begins today.

CIOG also extended Ramadan Greetings to all Muslims.
