Rampant Berbice dethrone Demerara
With Essequibo defeating Demerara on Thursday at the Tuschen ground in the third round of the 3-day format of the 2018 GCB/Hand in Hand Under-19 Inter-County tournament, Select Under-17 and Berbice completed their third round match with a draw.
The Select Under-17 in their second innings was 123 for 3 off 54 overs, when play ended on the third and final day. The Select U-17 team were given the task of saving the match by batting for the remainder of the day, after Berbice declared their second innings on 295 for 8. The team went about their assignment watchfully, and defied the odds by denying Berbice an outright victory.
Sachin Singh made a cautious unbeaten 68, national Under-15 batsman Mavendra Dindyal gave valuable support with 32, Seon Glasgow chipped in with 17, while Andre Seepersaud was the other not out batsman on two. Kevlon Anderson, who made a brilliant unbeaten 120 in the Berbice second innings, was adjudged Man of The Match.
The draw gave Berbice the 2018 GCB/Hand In Hand Under-19 Three-Day Inter County Tournament Championship.
The GCB/Hand In Hand Under-19 One Day -overs Inter County Tournament will commence on Sunday ( April) with Essequibo opposing Demerara at the GCC ground, Bourda and the Select U-17 competing with Berbice at the Tuschen ground, on the East Bank of Essequibo. Both matches commence at 09:30 hours.
