IN a close finish, Team Coco’s wheelsman Hamzah Eastman continued his dominant form to cop the seventh edition of the annual Baker’s Memorial Cycling Classic ahead of Deeraj ‘Kitchen Cat’ Garbarran.
Eastman got the better of Garbarran in the final sprint to cross the finish line in a time of two hours 30 minutes 20 seconds to win the 60-mile showdown. Such was his dominance that Eastman copped nine sprint prizes.
Eastman’s Team Coco’s teammate Jamual John, along with Paul DeNobrega, Curtis Dey and Walter Grant-Stuart completed the top six places in that order.
Briton John out of the United We Stand Cycle Club took top honours in the junior category ahead of Ajay Gopilall and Adealie Hodge while the Under-45 Veterans category saw Paul Choo-Wee-Nam come in first with Junior Niles and Ralph Williams second and third respectively.
Jonathan Ramsuchit was the winning juvenile followed by Esau Lowden.
Shenika Teixeira and Abigail Jeffrey were the only two female contestants and finished in that order.
The race began from outside the Baker’s residence at the GTT Junction before heading through Linden and returning to the point of origin.
Cash prizes and trophies were presented to the top six seniors and the top three riders in the other categories.
