Amelia’s Ward eliminate Silver Shattas with 6-0 drubbing

… Topp XX, Trainline and Cool Runnings also reach FastBall semis
AMELIA’S Ward United ‘A’ eliminated Silver Shattas with a shattering 6-0 drubbing, as they joined the other seven teams in the quarter-finals who have qualified from Linden to the next round of playoffs in this inaugural GT&T FastBall championship, held at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground on Sunday night.
In the other quarter-final matches, Cool Runnings beat Adams Rockers 3-2, Bakewell Topp XX scored a 3-1 win over Pioneer and Trainline knocked out Amelia’s Ward ‘B’.
Travis Waterton led Amelia’s Ward ‘A’ with a double strike, opening with the first goal of the match in the 5th minute before Devon Luke doubled the score for the Ward team in the 9th. Two minutes later, Waterton got his second goal and Jermaine Corlette increased it with a strike in the 14th minute with the ‘blue ball’ for a double goal.
Ezra Green then added one more goal to the Amelia’s Ward tally when he scored in the 16th minute for the winners..
Also qualifying were Cool Runnings with the ‘Rs leading their charge with goals off the boots of Roderick Richards in the 8th minute, Ryan Crandon in the 18th and Rawle Gittens in the 20th minutes while Tony Adams’ 12th minute strike which counted as a double was not enough to save his side from defeat.
The nightcap game was won by Bakewell Topp XX due to a penalty strike in the 29th minute off the boot of Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules who missed an open goal when he wrong-footed the Pioneer goalkeeper, but eventually hit the ball too high and hard over the crossbar in the second half.
He was later able to redeem himself with the penalty strike which counted as a double.
Pioneer played well within themselves to push Topp XX to the brink as Marlon ‘Tenab’ Daniels returned to competitive football with a nice header in the 18th minute to level things, after Topp XX had taken the lead in the 10th minute through a strike by Keon Sears.
Tomorrow the semifinals and final will be played at the MSC ground. In the first game Trainline take on Cool Runnings and the other semifinal is between Amelia’s Ward United ‘A’ and Bakewell Topp XX ‘A’. The losers will then play in a third-place playoff game before the final is decided between the winning semifinalists.
