GRFU resumes domestic rugby competition with Sultan Cup Fifteens

FOLLOWING the conclusion of the Final of the NACRA Fifteens Championships, hosted by Guyana at the Guyana National Stadium and won by Bermuda 11-0, the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will resume its Club tournament programme today) at the National Park Rugby Ground with the Colin Sultan Cup Fifteens Tournament.
The first game of the Sultan Cup will feature reigning champions Hornets vs the Guyana Defence Force at 16:00hrs. The Sultan Cup will conclude on Saturday July 16, bringing Fifteens competition to an end.
On Saturday July 23, the Banks DIH Sevens competition will open the season beginnng Guyana’s preparations for participation in the Pan Am Games Sevens Series, October 15–30 and the NACRA Sevens Championships to be held in Barbados, November 12 & 13. Guyana are the current Caribbean Sevens Champions and will be defending their title for the sixth time in succession.
The Guyana rugby team will form part of the Guyana Olympic Association’s national delegation to the Pan Am Games and will be the only team sport qualified to represent Guyana at the Games.
The Pan Am Games Rugby Sevens Championships will be contested by Argentina, USA, Canada, Uruguay, Chile, Guyana, Mexico and Brazil for rugby supremacy in the Olympic Pan American region, inclusive of North, South Central America and the Caribbean.
Guyana are currently the gold medal holders of the Central American & Caribbean Rugby Sevens.
