– ‘Leh he mother xxxxx (expletive) dead’
PROSECUTION witness Natasha Marshall testifying at the Festival City murder trial on Tuesday told Justice Roxanne George and the mixed jury that the wounded man Selwyn King, 42, was being taken to hospital, when his wife the accused Onika King, replying to a question said “leh he mother xxxxx (expletive) dead.”
According to the witness the question was posed by a man named Busta who had asked “suppose Selwyn dies”? when the wife who was later charged with murder blurted out the offending words.
No one saw the accused commit the offence, but the prosecution, led by Ms. Prithima Kissoon and Konyo Sandiford, is hoping to prove from circumstantial evidence that the accused wife was the killer.
It is said that the couple resided alone in the top flat from where screams emanated on December 13, 2006.
Shortly afterwards the wife Onika King was seen leaving the top flat via the stairway with what appeared to be a blood-stained knife in her hand.
Later neighbours entered the home and forced their way into the house where they found Selwyn King in a crouching position and bleeding from a wound in the chest.
On being lifted to a waiting vehicle, the witness Ms. Marshall said she rushed up to him and enquired what happened and he (Selwyn) replied: “I am going to die.”
Marshal also told the jury that the couple were always in fights and recalled that the last one she noticed was at a party at the Latino’s Club on the occasion of Selwyn’s birthday on December 2, 2006.
The witness added: “Onika King came up riding a scooter after she the witness had spoken to Selwyn. I asked her what happened. She told me to leave her alone. I asked her again and she said ‘Selwyn mother s…. (expletive) eyes pass me’. I walked behind her and asked her again what happened to Selwyn. She again said ‘Selwyn mother s,,,, eyes pass me.’”
Witness said that she followed her (Onika) upstairs of Selwyn’s home, went out to the verandah and asked her again what happened.
Marshall added: “Busta drove up; Busta asked me what happened to Selwyn. Onika answered for me. She said, ‘I did it – do you want some?
Busta then asked her what if Selwyn dies. To which she replied “Leh he mother S…. dead”.
Marshall said that she left for the hospital. When she got there she learned that Selwyn had died.
Marshall said that later the police asked Onika King who did that to Selwyn King and she said that it was a man named Ozy. The police then took Onika King and Ozy to the East La Penitence Police station.
One of the jurors who did not turn up on Wednesday, resulting in the trial having to be postponed to yesterday, was still absent on the resumption.
On ascending to the Bench yesterday, Presiding Judge Ms. Roxanne George announced to the remaining jurors, “No. 5 juror had some problem and is now at the doctor.
” We will adjourn to Tuesday July 5, 2011 when he is expected to be present”.
