Georgetown Medical Centre in court on charges brought by Labour Ministry

COMPANY Secretary of the Georgetown Medical Centre Incorporated (Prashad’s Hospital) Dr. Dapil (only name given), yesterday appeared in court to answer charges brought by the Ministry of Labour against the hospital.
It is alleged that on January 26, being the employer of Waveney Bagot, a nurse employed on a monthly basis, the hospital failed to pay a sum in lieu of notice of termination , that is to say the sum of $43,793, being benefit due to Waveney Bagot, on termination of her service.
Another charge stated that on the same day, the hospital failed to pay severance allowance on termination of service to Waveney Bagot, that is to say the sum of $131,378 being benefit due to her. And on the same day, the hospital failed to give notice of termination to Waveney Bagot.
An arrest warrant was issued for Dr. Dalip who was not in court at the time when the case was first called.
However, he presented himself before the court later in the day and pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Dr. Dalip was sent on his own recognizance, and the matters will be called again on July 8.
