A FATHER of three was killed after he allegedly walked into the path of route 42 minibus, BVV 852, on the Sarah Johanna Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Wednesday.
Dead is 61 yea-old Persaud Hari, a labourer of 62 Sarah Johanna, EBD. Reports indicate that at about 16:45hrs Wednesday, Hari was taken to the East Demerara Regional Hospital and he succumbed to his injuries at 22:30hrs.
Police said the driver of the public transportation who passed a breathalyser test is in custody assisting with the investigation.
Investigations revealed that minibus BVV 852 driven by a 50-year-old Yarowkabra Soesdyke/Linden Highway resident was proceeding north along the western carriageway, reportedly at a moderate speed when the pedestrian who was proceeding in the opposite direction on the eastern side of the road, suddenly began crossing from east to west into the vehicle’s path and was struck down.
The driver immediately picked up the unconscious man who sustained injuries to the head and body and took him the hospital but he died while receiving treatment.
The body is at Lyken’s Morgue and an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
