GITC, GTI record massive wins in Digicel’s schools football

THE Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) and Government Technical Institute (GTI) recorded massive wins last Monday, when action in the inaugural nationwide Digicel Inter-secondary School Under-19 football competition continued across Guyana. Playing at the Carifesta Sports Complex (formerly Guyana National Service ground), GITC swamped Monar Education 22-0 while GTI mauled The Business School 21-0 in their matchup which was played at the Georgetown Football Club ground but names of goalscorers were not made available to the press.
On that same day, Patentia Secondary also recorded a massive 20-1 victory over La Grange Secondary in their second round fixture which was contested at the Wales Community Centre ground while Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary defeated West Demerara Secondary 4-3 on penalty kicks after the scores were tied at one goal at the end of regulation time.
Jamal Butter and S. Grant got hat-tricks for New Amsterdam Multilateral, who trounced Line Path Secondary 9-2 in their Region Six fixture which also saw Belladrum Secondary go down to Ash Educational Institute 6-0.
In Linden, Christianburg and Wisburg Secondary were victorious over Kwakwani Secondary and the Linden Technical Institute, with the scores reading 1-0 and 2-0 respectively while there were wins for Stewartville Secondary School who upstaged Essequibo Island Secondary 6-0 and Covent Garden Secondary were victorious over Xenon Academy 2-0.
On Tuesday, Guyana Educational Institute got the better of Queen’s College 2-1. New Campbelville and Tucville Secondary got past St Winefride’s Secondary and Mercy Wing 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 score line at the end of regulation time.
Uitvlugt Secondary marched into the next round thanks to a 4-2 win over Leonora Secondary while Trevor Fraser got a brace in the 23rd and 56th minutes that took Winifred Gaskin Secondary to a 4-0 victory over Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary. New Amsterdam Technical Institute defeated Tutorial Academy 2-1 with Delbert Simpson and Devon James finding the back of the net for the winners.
