THE new ‘G’ Division Commander Mr. Joseph has a long way to go as he is now moving to deal with improving the much needed service here in Region 2. In our telephone conversation, he said that he would not allow criminal elements and the noise nuisance to have their way in Essequibo. He intends to deal with corrupt police officers if found guilty and there must be less time and more action between filing of complaints against law breakers and officers and the resolution of issues. He told me that “we need results! I haven’t come here to waste time I have come here to work! And put things in proper order. He told me if you are a good Commander then you must set the example to your officers and the public and produce results.
Since his arrival here in Region 2, the support received from members of the public is very heartening and they have a lot of confidence in him. So far, I can see that he is a no -nonsense commander and he has held fruitful discussions with members of the public and his ranks on issues relating to their functions and service. He warned his ranks that they must, at all times, be courteous and prompt when acting on reports, respect the public and that maximum supervision is expected at station level.
He told his ranks at all times members of the public must leave the police station or location where the report is being made, satisfied. He told me that “we are not masters of the people, we are servants of the people….we must serve”.
Through statistics from my point of view as the former Deputy Mayor of the Anna Regina Town Council I think he can be compared as a very hardworking and courteous commander like George Alexander Vyphius, Johnson, Balram Persaud, Steve Merai, Leroy Brummell, Jameer and Heeralall Makenlall whom I had the opportunity to work with in my tenure in the township on security matters.
Generally, members of the public are comfortable and have a lot of respect and confidence in him as the new Commander.
