TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Dennis David (no address given) was sentenced to three years imprisonment yesterday, after being convicted of break and enter and larceny.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry imposed the custodial sentence on him when he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Brickdam Police Station’s Bar in Georgetown, between June 15 and 16.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunte, prosecuting, said the prisoner stole ten bottles of XM rum, other alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and cash, worth a total of $65,385, property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
The prosecutor said a security check uncovered the breakage, and the burglar, when questioned at the scene, admitted to stealing the booty which was recovered.
Hunte said David was released from prison on June 15 after serving 15 months for a similar offence.
The magistrate said she took into consideration that David saved the court’s time.
