Overseas group holds successful football extravaganza in New Amsterdam

AN overseas group, calling itself ‘Overseas Disturbance Sports Club’ held its third annual football Fun Day last Sunday at the All Saints ground in New Amsterdam.
The day’s activity catered to young and upcoming talents from Corriverton Links Football Club, Arsenal Football Club, Cougars and Hearts of Oak FC.

The matches were done on a round-robin format with each team playing two games and the categories were Under-11 and U-13 along with an Under-21 matchup between Cougars FC and Shoe Lane Dominators FC.
In the Under-11 age group Corriverton Links FC prevailed over Arsenal FC in the final. The win for Corriverton Links had to be decided by penalty kicks.

Both teams exhibited their own flavour of football throughout the 20 minutes allocated to them.. At the end of the allotted time the score was locked 2-2. The penalty phase brought much excitement to the group and spectators at large, as Corriverton Links held their nerves to edge a spirited Hearts of Oaks lineup.
In the Under-13 final which featured Hearts of Oaks FC and Arsenal FC. Hearts of Oaks got the better of Arsenal 2-0.

Moving on to the older boys in the Under-21 age group, a ding-dong battle ensued between Shoe Lane Dominators and Cougars FC. At regulation time the score was locked 1-1. Shoe Lane Dominators carved out 7 goals at the penalty stage to Cougars’ 6 to win on penalty kicks, 7-6.

At the presentation ceremony the players were rewarded for their efforts. In the Under-11 age group, Mikel Georgeson was awarded Most Valuable Player, Shaun Pestano Best Goalkeeper, Timothy Harris Best Defender, Jamal Adams Best Midfielder and Michael Cumberbatch Best Striker.

In the Under-13 and U-21 category trophies were presented to the winning teams, in addition trophies for MVP, Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender Best Striker were awarded.
The Overseas Disturbance Sports Club also recently held its Annual food drive for the elderly. This activity was held on the 29th December, 2017 at the All Saints Anglican Church, New Amsterdam.
