TRINIDAD and Jamaica do not want airline competition, so they are not interested in what is good for Guyana. It seems that Guyana is just a step sister to CARICOM. On another matter, the sugar workers seem unable or unwilling to do what may be best for the country and themselves in the long term. Will the GoG take this opportunity to discuss with local and potential air carriers, along with REDjet, how a joint airline venture that can provide a direct North American service can be accomplished which would be to the benefit of all interested parties?
If the sugar industry is to achieve its ultimate potential, it must have dependable workers. Taxpayers, not politicians must know if the current workers want to work under existing conditions or allow the industry to hire those so willing, local or foreign. Managers who make more than one bad judgment call should be fired and replaced by more competent ones. Political and union leaders should tell their followers what is happening to workers and services during the financial crisis all over the world.
