LBI ‘A’ stop Grove to reach last 8
LBI ‘A’ defeated Grove by five runs last Sunday at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground, to reach the last eight in this year’s Trophy Stall-sponsored, MYO-organised Inter-Jamaat 10 overs-a-side tapeball competition.
LBI ‘A’ batted first and made 106 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs. Akram Ali made 37 (5×6) and was supported by M. Khan with 20 (2×6) against the bowling of Ahmad Nizamudeen, Abdullah Nizamudeen, Shafeek Ishmail, Imtiaz Pooran and Naved Ali, who picked up a wicket each for Grove.
Grove, in reply, could only manage 101 for 6 when their overs expired, with Azeem Azeez top-scoring with 30 (3×6) and was supported by Abdullah Nizamudeen who made 22 (2×6, 1×4), in what was a tense battle between the two sides, with Grove requiring 23 runs from the final two overs.
Meanwhile, the following teams have qualified for the quarterfinal stage, which will be played on Sunday, June 12, at a venue to be announced, with the fixtures being released as listed below:
Queenstown will oppose LBI ‘A’ at the MYO ground this Sunday, while the other two matches involving Grove against LBI ‘B’ and Farm, who set up a date with MYO, will be played at a later date. The winners will go on to the semi-finals, where they will join D’Edward who defeated Enmore in their quarterfinal encounter.
D’Edward, batting first, made 79 for 6 in their allotted 10 overs with Altaf Khan contributing 33 (2×6, 2×4) and Aftar Gani with 16 (1×6, 2×4) while Safraz Karim broke the back of D’Edward’s batting, picking up 3 for 16 runs.
Enmore, in reply, were scuttled for 53 in 8.3 overs, as Gani returned to take 4 for 8 including a hat-trick and received support from Reaz Imam and Raymond Singh who took two wickets each for 13 and 10 runs respectively. Christopher Surat top-scored with 13 (2×6) for Enmore.
