Georgetown among municipalities to get garbage trucks

VARIOUS municipalities across Guyana will receive garbage trucks from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to assist with waste disposal.
Permanent Secretary within the Ministry, Mr. Nigel Dharamlall made the disclosure last week at the hand over of tools and equipment to representatives
of the ten Administrative Regions.
He said, through the intervention of President Bharrat Jagdeo, the ten trucks, to be delivered before June month end, will also benefit some of the larger Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs).
Dharamlall told the Guyana Chronicle two of the trucks have already been acquired but have been loaned to the Public Works Ministry and the others are in the final stages of the Customs procedure.
He said it is unclear, at this stage, which of the other townships will get the vehicles but the major ones, like Georgetown, Linden and New Amsterdam, will benefit, as they have major garbage issues.
