–in probe into beating, dumping of teacher

A PERSON of interest is being questioned by the police in relation to the brutal beating of 22-year-old teacher, Kescia Branche who was discovered unconscious at the corner of Princess Street and Louisa Row early Sunday morning.
Divisional Commander, Marlon Chapman confirmed that police are questioning a person of interest and told Guyana Chronicle that the person was picked up sometime on Monday. Branche was seen in the company of a male at the Blue Martini Bar, located at Lamaha and De Abreu Street, Newtown, Georgetown, Guyana.
On Sunday, the unconscious body of the 22-year-old teacher of the Richard Ishmael Secondary School was found at the corner of Princess Street and Louisa Row by a passerby who called an ambulance. It is unclear what transpired that resulted in the teacher becoming unconscious.

The mother of one, who is suffering from brain injuries and a broken foot, had left her Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD), home for a night of partying. Her father, Alfred Branche, told the Guyana Chronicle Monday that the matter is being relentlessly pursued.

“The police assured me that they will be making arrests and they intend to solve this mystery in the shortest possible time,” said a distraught Branche. He told this newspaper that there has been no positive change in his daughter’s condition, and he is praying that she responds favourably to the treatment she is receiving. A meeting is scheduled with his daughter’s doctors tomorrow, when he will be provided with an update.
Meantime, the woman’s three-year-old son is currently in the care of his father, who has since given a statement to police. Guyana Chronicle understands that several persons made statements to the Police on Monday. “I am very disturbed that someone would treat my daughter in an animalistic manner–and it is not just because it is my daughter,” said an emotionally distraught Branche.
